We will design and make CommuniToy artifacts that are robotic, virtual, animated, motion reactive and explore the fusion of craft techniques and digital technologies.
Arts Council Application - What we plan to do
‘CommuniToy’ Exploring Senses successful toy reuse project will inspire a series of outcomes that we will develop, design and produce throughout the 6 months R&D project. These will include;
- IndentiToy- Get CommuniToys into a virtual world where they are controlled with your body movements through Xbox connect.
- Robotic CommuniToy- Explore ways we can introduce robotics into CommuniToy outcomes and accessible workshops.
- CommuniToy Animations- Find and test animation platforms to use in our workshops.
- Bespoke CommuniToys - Explore quality ways traditional craft and toy reuse can combine with digital techniquesand create a highly crafted collection of bespoke CommuniToys that will be exhibited and sold.
- CommuniToy Kits- developing affordable kits that can be sold.
- CommuniToy Performances- Design comedy and performance concepts to introduce to our events.
We will trial our workshop developments with our target audiences, children and young people aged 8-12 years and 13-19 years. This will happen twice a month at engagement sessions at the charities Brighton Youth Centre and Self Managed Learning College and also at citywide events.
ES will Research and Develop (R&D) innovative methods of fusing traditional craft techniques with a variety of digital and electronic technologies. This will enable ES artists to; Explore and fuse our artist practices.
Develop new exciting workshops for children, young people and families. Produce quality outcomes to be exhibited. Project outcomes will enable as to develop and design an innovative interactive exhibition we can tour and offer to museums , galleries, events and organisations nationally and internationally in 2015.
